The amazing tribute to Kobe Bryant
The 61st Grammy Awards were marked by the announcement of the death of basketball star Kobe Bryant who died on January 26, 2020 in Calabasas, California with his daughter Gianna, and who played for the Los Angeles Lakers, from 1996 to 2016. It was Alicias Keys, the talented pianist and singer of R&B, who paid a glowing and touching tribute, through a captivating speech.
Youth and talent in the spotlight
After this emotional moment, it was the young artist Billie Eilish who created the surprise of the evening, with her pop music and her somewhat dark side. She achieved a grand slam, taking home the award for breakthrough of the year with her track “Bad Guy”, song of the year, and album of the year award. The artist won all the awards in all major categories, a first in the Grammy’s history.
She even won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, and narrowly bowed for Best Pop Solo Performance, second only to the extravagant rap singer Lizzo, who walked away with three Grammy Awards.
A great moment for Billie Eilish who shared her award with her older brother, the author she works with. The young woman with dyed green hair, has somewhat outclassed stars accustomed to honors, such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Lana Del or Lady Gaga, as well as the confirmations of the moment, Lizzo, LilNas X, or Post Malone.
She is among the artists with the most Grammy Awards, six at the ceremony. Billie Eilish achieved brilliant internet success last spring, featuring bold pop, syncopated base, and innovative (TrapElectro) sound. She is the first artist to reach the top 100 of the US charts, surpassing LilNas X’s previous 19-week record, with her track “Old Town Road”.
