Glamour Fashion and Beauty wanted to pay tribute to an artist with multiple talents. Fatma Haddad who married Mahieddine , was born on December 12, 1931 in Bordj El Kiffan near Algiers and died on November 9, 1998 in Blida. This Algerian painter who will make herself known thanks to her different work which she will sign with the name of Baya.
She begins by modeling fantastic characters and animals in clay and then making gouaches on the advice of the sculptor Jean Peyrissac. He shows them to one of his friends, Aimé Maeght, who was passing through Algiers, so that he can give him his opinion on this artist.
A few years later, an exhibition was organized in Paris in 1947 by this same Maeght, in his own gallery. The preface to the catalog is provided by André Breton and the expo is very successful. Baya makes the front page of Vogue magazine, which devotes an article to her.
Baya was only sixteen at that time, when she discovered Paris charms and met the painter Georges Braque.
In 1949, she produced ceramic sculptures in Vallauris in the Madoura workshop and meet Picasso on this occasion.
