Venice, the famous Italian city leaves no one indifferent. It has always made travelers dream and react, but also poets, artists and writers. Nietzsche confused it with the word “music”. Chateaubriand described it as “a magnificent woman who is dying”, while Jean d’Ormesson saw it rather as a city “which always comes back to life and which continues indefinitely to sing its eternal opera in the Adriatic”
This means that this city, so singular by its location and its architecture, has never ceased, throughout its history, to amaze visitors and inspire romantics. It is also adorned with many beautiful periphrases such as «The 8th Wonder of the World», «The Queen of the Adriatic», «The floating city» or even «the city of lovers»…
Founded in 568, this city of dreams is located in the northeast of Italy in a lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. It is a coastal city but which extends, quite exceptionally, over a set of 118 small islands separated by a network of canals and connected by splendid bridges.
To get around, you can therefore use boats known locally as «Venetian gondolas» or «vaporetti», water buses used as means of communication between its different islands. A trip in this type of transport is more than necessary to immerse yourself in this romantic atmosphere but also to discover, more closely, the cultural and artistic heritage of this attractive city.
The tourist will undoubtedly appreciate its Grand Canal, its many churches, its Saint Mark’s Square, its Doge’s Palace and its famous Bridge of Sighs where visitors as a couple meet to seal their love. This rich cultural heritage and its architecture have earned it a UNESCO World Heritage listing.
Venice is today a high place of world tourism. It is even threatened by the influx of millions of tourists who come each year to discover this magical city where glamour and history mingle.
This interest is due to the fact that the Italian city is in itself a real wonder with a multitude of tourist sites as interesting as each other. We will visit, for example, Ca’ d’Oro, one of the most beautiful Gothic palaces which also houses a magnificent art gallery. One could also go to the island San Giorgio Maggiore which is in front of the Doge’s Palace. We will appreciate the church and its bell tower, as well as the Cini foundation which also houses a center of art and culture.
You should not miss your stay in Venice either to go to San Marco, one of the most famous squares in the world. Located in the heart of the city, this square is the nerve center where thousands of tourists converge to visit its basilica in particular, but also many other architectural marvels.
Another no less attractive site that must be visited at all costs. This is the famous Lido of Venice, a coastal strip stretching over a dozen kilometers between the lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, and where there are many luxury hotels and superb villas. Thanks to its assets, this place is transformed, in summer, into a seaside resort to attract beach addicts.
The city is also renowned for its cultural activities, in particular its contemporary art events organized by the Venice Biennale, but also for its international film festival called «La Mostra de Venise» and which is, in this year 2022, at its 79th edition.
But Venice will remain, above all, the city that best symbolizes love and dream of ecstasy. Because it knows how to offer couples romantic moments and places: a gondola ride in its Grand Canal, a sunset on its Lido, a stopover on one of its stone bridges or a stroll in its narrow and dark.
